“Dad Jokes” & Ice Capades

12/03/2016

If your read my blog, website (or really any of my posts) you may have heard me mention that my love for photography really is an extension of my love for people. Getting to know my clients during their sessions is equally as wonderful as creating art with them and the more I know them the easier it is for me to capture authentic traces with my lens.
Now, I may know a client before a session but when they are in front of my camera a level of knowing arises that I find to be most beautiful of all. One that leaves its traces in film and can be remembered or revisited with a simple glance at an image. Bri and Simon were this. Sweet friends who honored me with the chance to capture their sweet season of engagement.
She is in love with Simon and I don’t know what better to say than hers is a love most deeply and equally reciprocated. Simons heart is the perfect compliment and companion to Bri’s. He is the grounding to her dreams and the “goof” to her “ball”. He is strong in a way that doesn’t domineer or ask for attention but creates a steady safe place for the two of them.
To meet Bri is to order your favorite candy at a movie and then find it’s free and comes with a complimentary side of popcorn. No she’s not food (and yes maybe I’m writing this hungry ;p) but she is beyond sweet and does bring an element of freedom to any room she enters and any person she meets. Her personality will win you over just as quick as her smile and the only thing you’ll be wanting more of is her laughter (which is as easy to procure as the smile). Behind the smile is a heart of gold. One that craves adventure, meaning in life and longs to better the little corner of the world she calls home. Also, she is madly in love.

I think I knew they were a good fit when she genuinely laughed at every bad “Dad joke” he told. Or maybe it was when he threw her (she was laughing historically of course) over his shoulder and started spinning around telling her “Babe, were on Ice Capades.” (see below for the proof ;p).  These things revealed their chemistry but I think when I knew they were meant for one another was when I asked them what they want to be known for.
“What do you hope people will say when they talk about your relationship?”. They both agreed they hope people will talk about their authenticity. That they will be known for their caring hearts and real love for one another and their friends.
If the answer in words wasn’t enough to almost make me cry it was further brought home by the action that followed it. For, after the sun set and we started our drive back to town, we passed a man on the side of the road. Car broken down and distress written in bold along his brow. Without missing a beat our car was turned around and Simon was out seeing how he could help. Most wouldn’t stop but this beautiful couple I had just shot just showed that the beauty I saw with my lens was truly truly a reflection of authentic beauty within.
Bri & Simon, I am beyond grateful to call you two friends. Your generous hearts and loving actions do not go unnoticed and really do bring a little spring time to everyone around you. My prayer for you two is that your love for one another would continue to deepen and grow even more contagious to those surrounding you. That your wedding day would be a 10x fold return of the love and grace you shown to those blessed to be in your life. And that you would know this friend of yours sees you both and is beyond grateful to call you both friends.
