Happy Valentines Day friends! I know this day can be bittersweet. Maybe you’re single and this day just shouts awareness at that fact. Or maybe your loved one just doesn’t love you the way you deserve. I’m hoping that today the focus isn’t on the flowers or chocolates. That it’s not so much about the cards or cost of a present but more about the beauty in a four letter word.
A four letter word that somehow encompases the greatest expression of emotions that us humans have to give.
Love.
Love, an emotion that is not just felt but, that by nature, must be expressed through action.
Action that hopefully looks a little like one of the most read passages in the Bible.
“Love is large and incredibly patient.
Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. It refuses to be jealous when blessing comes to someone else. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance.
Love does not traffic in shame and disrespect, nor selfishly seek its own honor. Love is not easily irritated or quick to take offense.
Love joyfully celebrates honesty and finds no delight in what is wrong. Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others.
Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up.
Love never stops loving.”
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a (The Passion Translation)
It is a beautifully complete list. One that can seem un-attainably possible yet one that our human hearts crave.
Imagine being loved like this. Each sentence a reality that you live under and from.
Today, no matter how imperfectly those around you fulfill this list. No matter your current situation and past memories…would you believe me if I said that this love does exist.
This passage isn’t just a fantasy. It’s not just a dream. It was written describing my Creator.
It is not just a call for us to express this love here on earth but words that echo who HE is as a person.
Friend, He is this good. His love is this good.
I believe He wants to show you. To change your narrative, heal your past and bring you into a new experience of His extravagant love.
His Love truly is the best Valentines day gift and if there is one gift I’d want to share with you it would be this.
So, as cliche as this seems.
Jesus loves you. He loves you so very much.
Happy Valentines Day!
P.S. As promised here is a photo of my brave husband saving our model as she floated out to sea.
